Brand Ambassador Simon Diez

I am a Peruvian artist known for my unique style of painterly portraits and impeccable lighting technique.

My work combines a classic and pictorial aesthetic with the delicacy of modern portraiture offering that nostalgic, vintage, and stylized vibe that invites you to stop and appreciate what can be considered a contemporary classic masterpiece.

My color palette refers to classic painters from the Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo periods such as Rafael, Rembrandt, Caravaggio, Velásquez, Rubens, Boucher, and Goya, among others.

To me, the key to success is to do things in the simplest possible way and for that, we have to bear in mind only one thing I always say: “Technique is the mother of art.”

What inspired you to become a photographer/videographer?

The fact of being able to empower and celebrate people for who they are. Every time I show people how beautiful they look and when I see that sincere smile on their faces, it’s the best feeling I’ve ever had.

What is your photography style?

It is a combination of classical fine art portraits with a touch of fashion.

How did you get to where you are now?

I have practiced how to perfect my technique to make it simple but efficient.

Why is color management important to your workflow?

Color accuracy is very important to me, especially, because I work with fashion designers and makeup artists. Replicating the color they use in my photography is super important, out of respect for them. Color also helps me create a story. Using one color effectively is more interesting than using fifteen.

What are your favorite brands you have worked with?

Calibrite. I have a long history with the brand, and have been working with them since they were still X-Rite. Calibrite lets me respect color fully better than anything else I’ve tried. I also try to work in a way that keeps skin tone as natural as possible.

What would you say is your greatest achievement to this day?

Being part of the first twelve members of the Pro Team by PRO EDU.

What is an interesting fact about yourself?

I pay a lot of attention to details, but I love to maintain the beauty that I find in those imperfections that make us unique.

What is a top tip for people who aspire to do what you do?

Pay attention to the smallest details that can make or break what could be a great image.
